One day at the Haus

The house faces east, so the day starts on the porch.

In October the water goes quiet and the hills behind it turn gold. Cold mornings on a screened porch are the good ones.

6:14 AM Sunrise

The porch gets it first.

The cottage looks east across the water, so the sun comes up over the lake and lands on the screened deck before it reaches anything else in the house. Guests keep telling us this is where the whole weekend actually happens.

The kitchen has a plain drip coffee maker, on purpose. Bring your own beans.

10:00 AM On the water

Down to the dock.

The property runs to the waterfront with a small dock at the end of it. One guest called the end of that dock a prime fishing spot and caught a variety of fish off it, which is a better endorsement than anything we would write.

Paddle boards and boats rent from Silver Lake Marina in season. Once the water cools the dock becomes a fishing spot and a place to sit with a coffee, which is arguably the better use of it.

Worth knowing before you pack: boats cannot be docked at our dock. Slips are available at the Marina or the Country Club.

Afternoon Off property

Everything else is minutes away.

You are close enough to Letchworth to go for the afternoon and be back before dinner, and close enough to Perry to wander Main Street without planning it.

  • Letchworth State ParkThe Grand Canyon of the East. Three waterfalls, 66 miles of trail, and the reason most people drive out here in the fall.
  • Balloons over LetchworthHot air balloons launch from the park on clear mornings. Booking ahead is the only way it works.
  • The Club at Silver LakeThe golf course borders the back yard. Walk out and you are basically on it.
  • The Sea SerpentA giant Silver Lake Sea Serpent sits on the edge of the golf course. Get the selfie. Everyone does.
  • Main Street, PerryFarmers market on Saturday mornings. The Main Street Association bills the town as curiously hip, and they are not wrong about it.
  • Silver Lake State ParkBoat launch, public beach, and the closest swimming that is not off your own lawn.

7:30 PM Dinner

Somebody has to set the table.

Three places to eat, depending on the weather and the mood: the kitchen table, the dining room under the pressed tin ceiling, and the long table out on the porch. The kitchen is fully stocked with stainless appliances and everything you need to cook a real meal for twelve.

Or skip the cooking. Charcuterie, brunch boxes, and full grocery stocking are all on the enhancements list further down, and they get set up before you arrive.

After dark Fire pit

Then out to the fire.

The fire pit is out front on the lake side. Bring local firewood or pre-order it from us and it will be waiting. Board games are in the living room for whoever stays up.

Four bedrooms upstairs under the eaves, upscale bedding in all of them, and two newly renovated baths with walk-in showers.

This is a fantastic historical cottage on Silver Lake. The screened in porch is a magical space. We spent hours chatting, playing games, reading and just enjoying the view. Off the dock was a prime fishing spot. We caught a variety of fish.

Before you book

The practical part.

What does it cost?

Rates move with the date, the season, the day of the week and your guest count, so the booking page is the only honest answer. Listed pricing covers six guests and each guest past six adds a charge. Cleaning fees apply.

When can we check in?

Check in is 3pm and check out is 10am, same as every Dell Collective property.

Can we bring a boat?

Bring it, just do not tie it up at our dock. Slips can be rented from Silver Lake Marina or the Country Club, and the public launch is at Silver Lake State Park. The Marina also rents paddle boards and boats by the day.

Does it have a hot tub?

Not at the lake. The 19A Cabin has one, along with a screened porch and private trail access to the Genesee Greenway.

When does the fall color peak?

Early to mid October in a normal year, and it moves with the weather. Late autumn after the leaves drop is the quieter version, with the shape of the gorge finally visible. More on the season, and the other stays near the park, on the fall page.

How far is Letchworth?

Minutes. Close enough to spend an afternoon at the falls and be back on the porch for dinner.
