Enjoy a winter getaway or staycation in the curiously hip little town of Perry, NY!
As we near the end of the winter season and begin to really appreciate & soak in the apricity, I find myself reflecting on what a wonderful season it’s been at Dell. While we slow down a bit with the Silver Lake Haus closed for the season, the never ending to do list and projects continue!
Our winter guests seem to seek a different kind of escape through the winter months- time to relax, recharge and take it slow. The Southview and Highbanks spaces in the West barn are the perfect place to do so with the impeccable views provided by the garage doors in each space. The winter views of Letchworth State Parks’ Highbanks is one for the books, especially with a fresh coat of twinkling snow. The fire pits are available year round and we had some brave souls that came from the city and insisted on fireside s’mores and stargazing – truly a one of a kind experience in the crisp Western NY winter air.

Pre trip suggestions:
-Book your space! The West Barn is the prime location to stay during the winter months and you can often times find special reduced rates December- March. The Southview space sleeps up to 6 guests, includes an incredible 60” round soaker tub, unmatched views from the silo and hammocks to swing the weekend away in! The Highbanks space sleeps up to 4 guests comfortably, but is really the most wonderful couples getaway spot! It’s super cozy (the favorite space amongst our friends), includes the tallest door you’ve seen in person, as well as an incredible chef’s kitchen with the sink and stove of every home chef’s dreams.
-Make your reservations! Celebrating something special? There are some wonderful restaurants in the area and we recommend making a pre dinner reservation at Ration to grab a glass of wine, or a Vodka & Tea (personal Fav!) and an appetizer or two! If you don’t have enough time for pre dinner, definitely do post dinner and grab dessert here! From there, we suggest Ember, Galene, or Farmer’s Creekside – about 25-30 minutes from property and the perfect place for that special dinner. If you prefer something closer, Questa Lasagna has the most wonderful homemade pasta!
– Order any enhancements! If you’d like charcuterie upon arrival or a brunch box delivered your first morning, please book this in advance to guarantee availability. Check out Dell’s optional enhancements here.
-Plan a meal or two to take advantage of the kitchen!
Friday arrival:
We suggest arriving mid day on Friday, with enough time to stop in Mount Morris (Just off Route 390, and about 15 minutes from property) for lunch and some window shopping!
For lunch, I recommend Highbanks Tavern for a quick, but delightful bite! They also have a great variety of local beer on tap.
Next up, an afternoon of window shopping at the antique shops located right on Main Street. Great news, you are already there! Some of our favorite shops to venture into include:
-Trailside Treasures
-County Gentleman’s Antiques
-Allegiance Antiques
-Carvings and More
-Second Season Marketplace
-Wendy’s Pantry
While in town, take some time to admire the murals that are dotted along Main Street. Before you take off to head to the West Barn- make a pit stop at Zeppos Creekside Creamery or Suzeas Gluten Free Bakery for some sweet treats to hold you over until supper!
From Main st. in Mount Morris, you will head right into Letchworth State Park (there is no fee to enter during the winter months). Just inside the park is the Dam on your left hand side. Make a pit stop to check it out – you may get lucky and see one of the park eagles soaring along the dam!
For your first night at the barn – unpack, relax and crack open that bottle of wine. The kitchen is screaming your name for a home cooked meal, but if that’s not your jam…It’s Friday night and you are in Wyoming County so you must try a fish fry! You can order takeout from Daryl’s (they deliver), John and Sarah’s or dine in at the Lumberyard!
After dinner, run the tub & let the Dr. Teal’s bubble bath put you into full hygge mode!
Saturday
Rise and shine! Text: Sunrise to xxx-xxxx if you’d like for us to let you know if it’s worth getting out of bed for! Yes, it’s a real thing…though you will not need it if you sleep in the Southview silo’s sunrise suite because the view from bed is perfection!
Two of my favorite places to visit to start my winter mornings include Butter Meat Co. in Perry & Valley Bread and Bounty in Fillmore. If I had to choose one, I’d start at Valley Bread and Bounty for a chai latte and cinnamon rolls (don’t worry, I’m saving the BMC visit for later), then head to Letchworth State Park for a quick brisk walk along the middle falls! I swear the falls are even more beautiful in the wintertime – especially after a fresh snowfall! If you are really feeling the weather and conditions allow, you can even rent snowshoes locally. I recommend reaching out to Trail Otter or Endlessly Outdoors for all local outdoors adventure tips- especially in the winter!
After the outdoor fun, I’m stopping at Butter Meat Co. for a Farmer affogato (try it with the twist!) & to grab some snacks and market treats. FYI- this is the best local spot for winter ice cream treats- put that in your pocket and save it for later. While on Main St. check out Eleven Covington, hip sister store to Family Furniture, as well as Loch Life for all the Perry and Letchworth merch.
Saturday afternoons at the West Barn are made for naps, netflix and luxurious bubble baths and waterfall showers. Soak in the afternoon sun through the barn doors before you head to dinner reservations at one of the above recommendations. If the weather is too poor to travel away from Perry- takeout from Hong Kong on Main st. is perfect every time!
Sunday
Sundays are for sleeping in and enjoying a homemade cup of coffee in a cheery West barn mug prior to check out. If you are an early riser, take advantage of the trunk of board games for a quick match of jumbo checkers.
Before leaving Perry, make sure you enjoy brunch at Ration Wine Bar! While the standing menu is wonderful, the chef Travis specials are where it’s at. You must also try their bloody mary- it’s the best one around!
If two night’s aren’t enough to get you into full R&R mode, extend your stay, or come back in another season for an entirely new experience at the West Barn and our curiously hip little town, Perry, NY!
